My favorite memory of Darren was in Bible class...I cannot remember our teachers name...but he had her convinced his name was, Harvey...and every day at the same time he set his watch to alarm...she never did figure out what that noise was lol. She called him Harvey the entire year, and searched for that noise every day lol.
I do recall him going by Clint at SG and from the condition of the school he was probably the wiser to not associate his real name with it!! What a dive!
He was such a nice guy - what a loss!! I remember everyone teasing him about being bow-legged.
Yeah, Debbie. You, and probably all the rest of the girls too! (I know I did.) Did Darren's perpetual sidekick, Todd Puckett, not graduate with us? (I could be experiencing some memory gaps ... come to think of it, I don't remember that Todd went to SG.)
Does anyone remember him calling himself 'Darren Van Halen'? He was a scream. I can NOT believe he's gone. Update: I found Cindy's MySpace tribute page for Darren! Check this out: Cindy Hall
I remember so many things about Darren. The time he launced a campaign for "TOMMY RUDD for class president".That was the funnest thing. Everytime I would see him in the hall he'd say "Tommy Rudd for pres. I would see posters just randomly put up just anywhere. On our school bus. When we rode over to SG for V.I.C.A class.I would see posters on the lockers just any and everywhere. But the best one I saw is while I was using the bathroom and looked down and there it was written in one of the urinals. "Tommy Rudd for pres" Still till this day wonder why Tommy didnt win. ha,ha. Darren and I had Home Ec. together we were the troubled kids so Miss ???? would put us separate from the class. That was a mistake because she put us together in the Kitchen area. So Darren would sneak over and get some food and we would be munching the whole time. Another memory was a substitute teacher Miss Miller. And the kids who were in that class will appreciate this one. Poor lady Darren and I would get up and push the office inter-com system. Every 5 min. You would hear "office" and she was oblivious to us doing that. And would say "I didnt ring you. That went on and on till we got bored with it. So she called maintanence to come fix the problem. She never did figure that out. But Darren had a kanny ability to make anyone he was around laugh. He always had me laughing. We grew up in the same neighborhood and he loved Van-halen. I hate I lost touch with Darren while he was still around. I did talk to him before his last days. Although he was nt the same, he still forever in my mind. Darren Van-halen. (Tommy Rudd for President.)
I was really hurt when I heard that Darren had passed because I just found out this year.It was a shock. He always played around with me. I will miss him.
