CHESAPEAKE, VA - Joseph Patrick Shannon, Jr., 55, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 24, 2016.
Born in Livonia, Mich., he was the son of Joseph Patrick Shannon Sr. and Nell Catherine Shannon.
He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Moore.
Joe was a member of St. Stephen, Martyr Roman Catholic Church, where he was a 3rd Degree Knight, Knights of Columbus, and a member of the choir. He was also a member of TKAA, where he participated in the Wounded Warrior Project, supporting Heroes on the Water. During his service with the U.S Navy, Joe was recognized as "Sailor of the Year" aboard the U.S.S. Virginia. He continued serving his country as a civil servant supporting joint operations communications systems worldwide. Joe will be remembered for his love of family, friends and fishing.
Including his parents, Joe is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lisa D. Shannon; sons, Joseph P. Shannon III and Christopher P. Shannon; siblings, Cathy Dykstra, Mike Shannon, Pat Shannon, Tim Shannon and Dan Shannon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at St. Stephen, Martyr Roman Catholic Church. The inurnment will be in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Chesapeake.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the choir of St. Stephen, Martyr Roman Catholic Church, 1544 Battlefield Blvd. South, Chesapeake, VA 23322.
