Obituary
Teal L. Potter passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the age of 61. He was a longtime resident of Skagit County, most recently Burlington. He was born on June 9, 1960 in Colfax, WA to Marvin “Sandy” and Patricia (Mellenthien) Potter.
Teal moved to Skagit County at the age of 5. He attended school in the Burlington-Edison School District, graduating from Burlington-Edison High School in 1978. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served our country for 10 years. After returning home in 1988 he began his refrigeration career at Americold Logistics which was right across the street from where he lived. He worked his way up from lumping trucks to refrigeration engineer and finally to the facility services manager at the Burlington, WA and the Lynden, WA plants. He left Americold in 2017 and started working for Trident Seafoods as their PSM Coordinator in remote Alaska. He worked there until deciding to come back down home to live permanently in April 2021.
He met his wife Maggie while bowling on one of the many leagues he was a member of, and they continued to bowl together for over 25 years. The couple was married on May 9, 1992 in Sedro-Woolley, WA. Together the couple had three children, Dain R., Dalton I. and Cheyanne R. Potter. He was a member of the Eagles and worked his way up through the chairs, becoming president of the Skagit Valley Eagles Aerie 3242 in Burlington twice. He was also a multi-year trustee. He donated many many hours of volunteer work at the Eagles. He was most loved and requested for his cooking abilities, always the steak griller at Steak Night until he left for Alaska. Teal and Maggie were full supporters with Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) where he was fondly known as “Chef” and could do the one thing he enjoyed the most, riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Being a member of these groups, he made many new friends and rekindled old friendships. Besides motorcycle riding, he also really enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a vested member of the Teamsters Union and member of the United States Bowling Association for over 25 years. Teal was an extremely hard worker and providing for his family was a priority to him. His children have all adapted his great work ethics and are striving in their careers.
Teal is survived by his wife Margaret-Mary Tuttle (Potter) of Burlington, WA; sons, Dain R. (Megan) Potter of Bellingham, Dalton I. Potter stationed in San Diego, CA; daughter, Cheyanne R. Potter stationed in Goose Creek, South Carolina; brother, Tegan L. Potter of Bremerton, WA and sister, Tesa (Ken) Potter-Davies of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin “Sandy” and Patricia Potter and his older brothers, Sandy and Terry Potter.
Teal’s wishes were always to be cremated and have his ashes scattered amongst the wildlife in Eastern Washington. We will be doing this later along with the ashes of his parents and brother.
A celebration of Life will take place later this year.
