Shawn was always fun to have around, I just can't believe he is no longer with us. I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure he is dearly missed. Fondly, Kim Hood (Schwartz)
Scott, his sister, Gary Zavala, Travis Holmes and myself made the trip to Klamath Falls, Oregon to go to Shawn's funeral. He was buried with military honors on the air force base. I speak to his sister Robin often. Shawn has a son and a daughter. He is greatly missed! I wish he could be here to visit the past with us!!
When I was in grade school, I felt like Shawn & Lee Martin were my best friends. (I don't know if you knew that Lee) When I think of Shawn, there is always a smile on his face. Just like his class picture. I'm sorry we didn't remain close in High School.
I was really shocked and saddened to hear about Shawn passing. That group of guys spent a lot of time together during high school and I'll always remember Shawn's laugh being at the center of it. He was a great guy who left way too early.
Shawn always had the biggest smile and biggest laugh! He was loved by all who knew him and went "home" far too soon! God bless to his close friends and family members..... Anne
I am sorry that I had lost contact with Shawn after graduation. Some of my best childhood memories are of him and some of the crazy things we did.He was a good friend and he is missed.
Shawn, my dear friend, now I finally understand why you have come to visit me. It is not until this very moment, 7/1/08 @ 7am. that I have heard of your passing and my heart breaks ever so. For years I have wanted to find you so I could say thank you for all that you did for me. You saw my true gentle nature and by your own choice you chose to protect me from those who wished to take advantage of my open heart. Your selfless actions of love have left a mark on my heart that I cannot ever forget. Those actions will, just as they have, live on inside of me as long as my body draws breath. I pray that we will meet again as brothers in a place that is rid of all evil. Till then God bless you my dear friend.
The combination of Jeff's comments above, and the picture of Shawn leave me virtually speechless and literally sobbing. It is no surprise that a man of Shawn's character would leave such an impact on one's life. I must add that Jeff's reflections resemble what is most likely one of thousands of people that Shawn had such an influence on.
I will forever remember Shawn as he was in the 8th grade...wild & happy. I can still see him rolling in the basement door with Travis, Lee, & JJ. Those days hold some of my favorite memories. Thoughts & hugs to his family.
I definitely considered him one of my best friends. I was a lost soul in HS too, and he always kept me laughing, and definitely protected me, as I was usually the only girl in the group. Whether it was with Lee, JJ, Gary, Travis, and the rest of the crew or just he and Eric Iverson and I...we had sooo much fun with whatever we did! There weren't many I spent LOTS of time with in HS but he was definitely a HUGE part of my HS years.
He was absolutely adorable and had a smile to light up the room like no other. And as Jeff noted, he was really there for me, too, and was one of the very few who looked further than my tough exterior to see the little girl that was just trying to survive her childhood. We had so many late night talks, contemplating life, just curled up on the couch. I spent every day with him before he left for the service. I was devastated to have him leave, and I was super devastated when I found he had "left" us for good.
After all this time, it's hard to even see his face or think about it w/o tearing up (like now). My heart goes out to his family, and also to his friends who I know feel the same. I have a lot of pictures to smile at because I know he's smiling back at me - he can't help but grin back!
Taken way too soon, but obviously had a huge purpose in this life. He has obviously had such a positive impact on so many people in the short time that he was on this Earth...more than many do in their long lifetime. Looking back it was a blessing to have him the short time we did.
