When I think of Ryan, I think of Edison recesses. I think of skinning our knees together diving for passes, I think of his mastermind tendencies, his ability to decode the opposing base coaches' signals, his courage in throwing the first boy/girl party we had in our class and in wrestling that ugly Sedro-Woolley state champion, his leadership in setting up sports pools among our classmates and his statistical take on life. Everything was more black and white to Ryan, and I envied that. Ryan the Kaufman. He remains among my most cherished memories of childhood. The last time I saw him was at the high school weight room, and he had graduated from college. He was filled out and grown up. He looked strong and happy. I think of him and I get choked up. I guess that's a good thing. I won't forget him.

One of my favorite memories of Ryan was when a few of us got together after high school at Bruce's mom's place in Bellingham. Ryan was full of fun and laughter that night. Every time I saw him, he had a huge smile on his face and was always happy. He was a great friend. Ryan, I miss you and will always cherish the fun times we had together.

While it's true that Ryan was a genius of the mathematical/statistical variety, what some might not remember is the great business acumen the guy had. Ryan ran the biggest sports gambling operation B.E. will ever witness. Of course it was mostly for fun, but he must have made a few bucks on the side. I sat next to Ryan in Freshman English and fondly remember how he used to buy candy at the cafeteria and then re-sell it to me at double price. I'm sure the guy would be on the Forbes list if he were here today. What a personality. I miss him.

Bryan,
Your comments about Ryan make me smile. I too remember Ryan's business side and have to conclude that if we had not been saddened by the good lord's decision to bring him home, we'd all be seeing him regularly today on a well known reality TV show telling people "You're Fired". Because he was destined to such success I have to think some of us may have been among 'the fired' along his way to superstardom.

Wish you were here Ryan,

Ryan was a wonderful friend throughout high school. We were in many classes together, but I don't remember what they were. I just remember that he was somebody that would do anything for a friend, and I was lucky to be counted as one of his.

After high school and many travels/schools we both ended up in the same orientation class at WWU. We hung some when time permitted and stayed in touch after WWU forced us both to leave.

I considered Ryan a very good friend and am sad that he is no longer with us. He is dearly missed.

Lets see....not only was he a great friend but a great foe growing up...those recesses Nick talks about was his football team against mine....or baseball...or hand tennis outback the school...always a competition...but after school I saw him here in burlington..I picked him up one morning to goto the navy base to play basketball..just like old times...me throwing long passes to him and he lays em up...sweet time that I still remember...but I had my youngest that day and he was holding him and my boy was laughing..hard laughing with Ryan holding him..great moment..even better that he had about 3 glasses of apple juice on the way out there cause he shit all over the grandstands, Ryan, the floor and ryan just laughed. After that great day, I was headed into mt vernon when I received the news of what happened...and I cryed. I still do today when I think of Ryan...he made me a better person...I miss those younger days...Ryan..Nick..doesnt seem real.
