In Memory

Gary W. "Bianucci"

Gary W. Bianucci

Gary Wayne Bianucci, lovingly known as Gary, Jerry, or Gary-Jerry, 77, of Leesburg, Virginia passed away on January 15, 2024. He was in the comforts of his home in St. Pete Beach, FL, surrounded by family, listening to his favorite music, when he courageously ended his battle with liver cancer.

Gary was born on September 16, 1946 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Victor and Rose Bianucci. After he graduated from high school, Gary joined the U.S. Navy in 1964. Gary served as an E4 in the Vietnam War. He was discharged in 1967, but he was in the reserves for three additional years.

In 1971 Gary opened his first gym in Temple Hills, MD called Spartan Gym. Later in 1981 he and his business partner changed gym names to Olympus and opened their first Olympus location in Falls Church, VA. Over the course of his life, Gary helped open and run over ten gyms, including a few Planet Fitness franchises.

Gary met Barbara in 1976 at Rosie O'Grady's in Orlando, FL, and they were married in 1980. They were blessed with two sons, Anthony and Michael. Gary and Barbara raised their family in Annandale, Virginia.

There's not a baseball stat he didn't know, not a piece of gym equipment he hasn't used, not a person he couldn't make laugh, and not a friend he wouldn't help. Gary was happiest when he was watching and coaching his sons play baseball, talking about gym equipment, riding around in his tractor, and spending time with his family. He had the memory of an elephant and a heart of gold.

Gary is survived by his wife Barbara, his sons Anthony (Haley) Bianucci of Boca Raton, FL, Michael (Colleen) Bianucci of Apollo Beach, FL, his brother David Bianucci of Fairfax, VA, and his five grandchildren: Carter, Bella, Victor, Roman, and Gabrielle. Gary will be missed immensely by all, but his family takes comfort knowing he is up in heaven setting up his next gym.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SmileTrain (smiletrain.org).

Celebration of Life will be January 26th. Contact Colleen Bianucci at 571-214-5550 to learn about the arrangements. Gary Wayne "Jerry" Bianucci

Just a simple message to give condolences to your family from an oldtime friend here in Butler. It is with great sadness that we have to again say goodbye to a gym-mate and mutual classmate. Jack and I use to talk about the old days at the "Cubs Hall Weight room" where many a bench press made lasting memories and cemented a friendship that lasted through the years. I will forever cherish those hard but golden days as we continue to be erased and times slide by, so please say hello to all those that have been added "In Memory" - till we meet up once again, so rest now in His peace, my blessings to your family as you are not forgotten and already missed.  Rick

Pam and I are very saddened to hear of Garys passing. I knew Gary well before I married into the Bianucci family. He was Pam's 1st cousin. We visited him and his family back in 2014 at his home.  We shared family history and found lots of common ground on that visit. We were both veterans - he the Navy and I the Air Force. Both of us had fathers that were WW2 vets and POW's ... Luckily God was with them then and protected us as we journeyed through the Vietnam era. I'm sure he is with God now ! We express our deepest sympathy to his wife and family !

Grew up with Gary on the  South Side played Baseball with and against him in the old Butler Pony/Prep leagues. He went into body building, weight lifting, and physical fittness, he became massively strong especially on the bench press. I ran into him before I retired when I was on business trip to Florida, he was still well strapped as they say.Talked to him for a good hour or so mostly about his business and the South Side.He was affectionatly known by us guys as "Hound", he was one of the good guys RIP Gary
