Ruth (Harris) Caddick, 88, of Plainville, passed away on Monday, (August 11, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital. She was born in Plainville, on May 4, 1915, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Marie (Hofsess) Harris. Ruth graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. She then joined the U.S. Army, and served during World War II. She received the E.A.M.E Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal, and was honorably discharged as a Captain on February 14, 1946. Ruth was a dedicated nurse at New Britain General Hospital for 22 years, serving as head nurse of the lntensive Care Unit, before her retirement in 1980. She was a longtime member of the Congregational Church of Plainville, as well as the Red Hat Society, and Plainville Senior Center. She was an avid bridge player, and was a big fan of the Red Sox and UCONN Women's Basketball. She is survived by her son, Roy L. Caddick, Jr. of Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Kathy Goff of Plainville, and Karen Fitzgerald and her husband, Gary of Baldwin, Long Island, NY. She also leaves four grandchildren, Amy B. Rossi, Kelly H. Fitzgerald, Brian K. Fitzgerald, and Christopher Caddick; a great-grandchild, Emily Ann Ross; and her nephew, Steven Widger and his wife, Joan. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Widger. In celebration of Ruth's life, relatives, friends, and neighbors are invited to gather on Saturday, August 16, from 1-5 p.m., at Ruth's home, 58 Cleveland St., Plainville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ruth's memory would be appreciated to the Plainville Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 233, Plainville, CT 06062 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Bailey Funeral Home, Plainville is assisting the family with arrangements.
