In Memory

Susan G. Damonte (Gutman)

Susan G. Damonte (Gutman)

From her son, Jeff (February 3, 2016):

..."It's with a heavy heart that I have to report the passing of my mother Sue Gutman. Those who knew her were touched by her kindness and vibrant spirit. She introduced me to music and gave me confidence to follow my dreams. She passed quietly this afternoon surrounded by the love of her husband Ken and her children: Bruce, Meera and me. We were blessed in that she held on long enough so that we could all say our goodbyes together as a family. We will miss her for all of the days of our lives.”

Sad to hear this. Condolences to Sue's family and friends.  Although I did not know her personally, her life meant much to those who loved her.  May God's love comfort her family and bless them with loving memories.

I am still in shock after getting the news this morning.

I had classes with Sue both in Blackford and Westmont, and she had a wonderful upbeat personality, was always friendly, and of outstanding intelligence.  I have always admired her greatly.  My heartfelt condolences to her family and everyone who knew her.

I didn't know Sue well at Westmont, but at the reunion, I walked back to my room with Sue and her husband and we had a brief but nice chat. Those few moments made me wish I had known her better in high school. I'm so sorry she's gone.

Sue was a beautiful sweet girl and will be missed by many.  I'm so, so sorry.

Ken, Bruce, Jeff, and Meera,

My wife (the former Barbara Bueckert from this same class) and I are so sorry for your loss. We spent quite a bit of time talking with Sue and Ken at the reunion. We talked about their antiques business and some of the special pieces that they had found that remain in their home. We both could tell what a special and deeply loving relationship they had, and how much they enjoyed being with each other. We miss you Sue.

It was wonderful to reconnect with Sue at our reunion, after almost 50 years!  She was among the friends I'd lost track of, from when she lived just around the corner in our neighborhood, and I remembered how pretty, mature, and smart she was.  It was such a thrill to find her again, exchange enthusiastic e-mails, and then to share in the delight of seeing her at our reunion, and meeting her ebullient husband Ken.  Sue and Ken had celebrated 50 very happy years of marriage that March.  Sue was radiant and as lovely as I remembered.  It was quite a shock to learn of her passing, but I am so glad to have known her and to have been able to share that wonderful evening with her and so many old friends.  My deepest sympathies to Ken, and to their three children, three grandchildren.  "All of good the past hath had, remains to make our own time glad."
