CA Alma Mater

Lost to Memory

The Canandaigua Academy Alma Mater is lost to memory.

The 1961 Academian prints the lyrics on its back page, but no one at the current Academy seems to know the melody:

Sing the lay of Canandaigua
Join in the praise,
For to us it is the best song
Which we can raise.
We will ever loyal be;
Praise the Flag that soon will be
Floating in the air
Above to victory.

The chorus will ring
As to thee now we sing
And shout out our praises today.
We'll add to the fame of
Canandaigua's name
As we march along a merry song
We'll sing for Aye.

Karen- I do not remember that song.  In chorus we sang "The Halls of Ivy" and it was my understanding that it was our Alma Mater.  We used to sing it at school functions, etc.

Oh we love the halls of Ivy

that surround us here today

and we will not forget

though we be far, far away

To the hallowed halls of ivy

every heart will bid farewell

and shimmer off in twilight

like the old vesper bell

one day a hush will fall

the footsteps of us all

will echo down the hall & disappear

but as we sadly start

our journey far apart

a part of every heart

will linger here

in the sacred halls of ivy

where we've lived & learned to know

that through the years we'll see you

in the sweet after glow

Anyone else remember this?  Betsy

OMG!!!  Did you gals sing these songs Friday night at the Sand Bar???????? hahaha.

How on earth do you remember any of the songs we sang in chorus?  YOU are both good!

OH!.....  was I even in chorus?  haha.   maybe that's why I don't remember!

This reunion was fun don't you think?  Seeing everyone again.  Just wasn't enough time throughout the night to really sit and talk with anyone for a long time.  Seemed like it all went too fast.

Hope you had a great time.  It was sooooooooo good to see you.  :-)

Please, Stay in touch.  If you are ever in town give me a call.  ( I'll probably be here till I die!)    I'll look for you Karen at the Lake.

Sincerely,

Patty

I found this from what Dave Barry left behind Saturday. Did we say this at graduation?

The Pledge:

Realising the long tradition of Canandaigu Academy and the responsibility which she entrusts to the continuing ranks fo her graduates, I pledge my devotion to the ideas for which she stands. Throughout the years, I will strive for truth and goodness. Character and citizenship will be my steadfast goals. In that purpose I will use my talents and training for the better life of my state and my nation.
