Joe was one of my best friends.  We met at St. John's Church when we were knee-high to grasshoppers.  Our Dad's sang in the choir, later to be joined by both of us.

He was one of the nicest people I have ever known.  I never knew him to say bad things about anyone.  (I wish I could say the same about myself).

He was the first person at Cdga Sr A to get Purple Chuck Taylors, and I remember everyone talking about..."did you see the kid with Purple Cons???".  That still cracks me up to this day.

I remember he loved Rock-and-Roll!  He turned me on to Led Zepplin before anyone knew who they were.  We were good pals from grade school, Boy Scouts, and all the way through my last year at Canandaigua Sr. Academy in 1974 before I moved to Atlanta with my folks.

He was one of the only friends who stayed in touch.

I picked him up at the airport when he graduated from basic training and he had 48 hours before he had to report at Ft. McClennan.  And we partied hard!!!  Then I took him to the base and prayed he wpuldn't be in trouble for the residual alchohol I was sure was there!!! HA HA HA HA!  We always laughed about that when we talked.

His work at the VA was his life, he always told me it was his way of taking care of his brothers.

We crossed paths several times while he was still in the Army.  Always always had a good time with "Old Joe".

It was devastating to me to hear of his untimely death as reuniting with him and our 3rd Amigo, Tim, was the driving force behind me coming to the 40th reunion.  Not the only reason of course, but I so wanted to hang with Tim and he, to relive old memories and have some yucks.

I will miss him terribly but will always have a smile on my face when I think about him.

Peace Brother,

"Bear"
