I have some wonderful memories of being in choir. I remember singing in a rural church in a small SD town - and it sounded as if the angels in heaven were all of a sudden singing with us, as we achieved perfect pitch. The overtones were amazing. Clifton Madson was a wonderful choir director with such a strong faith in God which showed in his enthusiasm and joy in what we were singing. He shared his faith in God with us AA students and with all those attending our concerts.
Wonderful memories of an extraordinary man. No other choir director came up to the standards Mr. Madsen set for all of us. We were all blessed to know him. No doubt that heaven is a better place now that he is there!
I remember making choir for the first time as a Sophmore and how exciting I was and my father was over the top thrilled. He collected many AA choir records and treasured them above many worldly possessions. When he was too old and ill to play them much anymore, he told mom that I should get them when he died. I have a bunch of them and do listen from time to time as I still have a turntable. I wish the original tapes could have be made into CD's, probably someone has tried but not enough interest to do it.
One of my favorite memories was singing "For All the Glory" before meals on choir tour. I have looked for and asked about that music/lyrics for some time now and have never found it. If anyone has it, please let me know.
I would never trade those years for anything. It will be great to see Clifton again someday...and he might be leading a choir on the other side....in perfect pitch!
