In Memory

Sherie Detten (Jackson)

Sherie Jackson, 45, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Paramount Terrace Christian Church with the Rev. Scott Greer and Leroy Matthiesen, bishop emeritus, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Mrs. Jackson began her journey on March 9, 1957, when she was a special blessing to Tom and Annabelle Detten of Claude. The Detten family was completed with sisters, Marjie Heymer and husband, Larry, and Jaynie Cossabone, all of Amarillo; and brothers, Tommy Detten and wife, Leesa, of Amarillo, Jim Detten and wife, Joann, of Stanley, N.M., and John Detten and wife, Evelyn, of Battiest, Okla.

Sherie was united with the love of her life, Mark Jackson, on Nov. 21, 1987, when they married in Amarillo. Into this union came their children, Andrew Jackson and wife, Shirley, of Aiea, Hawaii, Amanda Jackson and Matthew Jackson, both of Amarillo, and Angela Thompson of Friona; and her grandson, Christopher, born in 2000 to Matthew and Angela.

Sherie worked with Mark for many years in their graphic art business and in the health care community in Amarillo, after completing her education at Amarillo College and West Texas State University.

She loved her husband's family, Emmett and Edwy Jackson of Amarillo; and brother, Larry Jackson of Taegu, South Korea.

She loved and cherished her family, her church family and a multitude of dear friends. She leaves her legacy of love to all these.

Sherie was re-diagnosed with cancer in August 2002 and approached her transition and fate with the same courage, faith, strength and spirit that she lived with every day of her life.

Sherie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. We will all treasure the memory and example of her love and we know that her journey through this life ended at the gates of heaven, where she looks for us to join her.

Survivors include her children, Andrew Jackson and wife, Shirley, Amanda Jackson, Matthew Jackson and Angela Thompson; her grandson, Christopher; sisters, Marjie Heymer and husband, Larry, and Jaynie Cossabone; and brothers, Tommy Detten and wife, Leesa, Jim Detten and wife, Joann, and John Detten and wife, Evelyn.

The family suggests memorials be to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 2324 Lakeview Drive, Amarillo, TX 79109; or Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.

Sherry was my best childhood friend and lived 2 miles down the road from us. I ran away from home as a 4 year old and made it almost to her house. We would laugh until purple koolaid would come out of our noses; we had a Monkeys fan club. We practiced the Hawaiian stick-throwing routine for Mrs. Wilson's 6th grade music program so well (on the bus-throwing sticks back and forth) until we never made a mistake. I wish she were still with us.
