William "Bill" Hetzler

William "Bill" Hetzler, 52, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Amarillo South Church with Charlie Cox officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Bill was born Feb. 17, 1957, in Northridge, Calif., and lived most of his life in Amarillo. He attended Canyon High School before joining the U.S. Army, where he served for four years. He worked for B&W Pantex as a production technician for more than 25 years. He married the love of his life, Terri Duffy, on Aug. 27, 2008, in Amarillo.

Bill had a great love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, as well as the people who rode them.

He was an active member of HOG, Harley Owners Group, in Amarillo, where he held several offices since 2000. He loved to raise money for nonprofit organizations in Amarillo such as Eveline Rivers, Make-A-Wish and MDA, just to name a few. Bill was a man who was always willing to help anyone who needed it. His smile and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill B. Hetzler; and his stepfather, Ted Bliss.

Survivors include his wife, Terri; a daughter, Mendy Hetzler; a son, Jason Hetzler-Genn and wife Joanne of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Amanda Duffy of Midland; his mother, Alma Bliss of Amarillo; a sister, Vicky Bails and husband Tony of Bushland; two brothers, Scott Hetzler and wife Debra of Amarillo and Drew Hetzler and wife Jennifer of Cincinnati; and a granddaughter, Ada Genn of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
