It is with great sadness that I am passing on some information that I received about one of our classmates and close personal friend, Chuck Bennett. Chuck passed away last week from heart failure. Chuck had long suffered with heart conditions and it finally caught up with him. Chuck was one of my childhood friends that I grew up with. We first met in the summer of 1959 and remained friends throughout our lives. We experienced and shared many an adventure (or misadventure depending on your point of view), from grade school, through high school, and beyond (let’s not forget about Floyds Restaurant). We also spent many an hour laughing and reminiscing about them as we grew older.
When Chuck’s brother Marc called me with the news about Chuck he passed on a parting story. When Chuck was in the hospital waiting for a chance at a new heart he told Marc that he did not like the idea of someone having to die in order for him to have a chance to live. I guess God and Chuck chose.
I for one will miss him. Take care my friend.

This is unbelievable and tragic news. Using this great tool (our site) in November and December Chuck and I went back and forth with memories of some crazy times we spent together from high school through college years and as roommates in 1973-1974, including being best man in my wedding. He mentioned that he had some health issues but was doing well. He never complained about what was obviously a serious situation. Charlie, rest in peace my crazy friend!
