James W. Haertel

James W. Haertel formerly of Dundee James W. Haertel, 61, recently of Springfield, died Saturday, June 23, 2012. He was born March 13, 1951, in Dundee, the son of Walter and Hildegard (Reko) Haertel. Jim graduated from Dundee Community High School in 1969, and earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He married Jane Conley on June 20, 1998, at St. John Lutheran Church in Chatham, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Suzie Salmon; and stepson, Jimmy Cusack. He is survived by his wife, Jane; three stepchildren; six stepgrandchildren; sister, Cindy (Don) Totter of Lindenhurst; three nieces; one nephew; and one great-niece. Memorial gathering will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Friday, June 29, followed by the memorial ceremony at 1:15 p.m., at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
