McHENRY - John Edward Sterba, 58, of McHenry, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Centegra Hospital - McHenry.

He was born Feb. 5, 1951, in Elgin, to Ed and Lorraine (Holter) Sterba. On May 12, 1984, he married Deborah Freund in Rockford.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Sterba of McHenry; his four children, Jonathan Sterba of McHenry, Joe Freund of Round Lake, Stephanie (Jason) Justen of Fox Lake and Christine Demers of Harmony, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Anthony Allard, Kelly Demers and Erin Hooker.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry.
