Gared Becker

A Cass City teen became the county’s twelfth fatality when he was killed Friday night while walking along North Cemetery Road 2 miles south of Cass City.  Gared Becker, 17, 4125 West Street, was struck by a pickup driven by Teutobert H. Schulz, 28,6242 River Road, who was traveling north bound on Cemetery Road just north of Kelly Road at 11:40 p.m.  Schulz told sheriff’s deputies that he hit an unknown object and went back to see what he had hit and was unable to find evidence of anything. He told police he returned home and then came back to the scene. Becker, who was dead at the scene, was taken to Caro Community Hospital and then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.  He was born Oct. 29, 1968, in Flint, the son of Robert Becker of Cass City and Jane Becker of Deford. A ‘1986 graduate of Cass City High School, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America.  Surviving, besides his parents,are 2 sisters, Michelle Martin of Port Huron and Jennifer Beckerof Deford; his paternal grandmother, Ella Beckerof Cass City; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs, Robert Ecker of Flint; great-grandfather, Leslie Hewitt of Ubly, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.Gared was to be taken from Little’s Funeral Home, Cass City, at 11 a.m.Tuesday to the Deford Community Church to lie instate until 1 pm,, time of funeral service.
