Gary Arthur Churchill, 56, a longtime resident of Atlanta, but an Iowan at heart, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 11, 2017.

Gary was born the second son of James and Suzanne Churchill on Sept. 30, 1961, in St. Louis, Mo. As a young child, Gary followed his parents from St. Louis to Washington, D.C., Phoenix and Los Angeles before settling in Cedar Rapids. Gary attended Garfield Elementary School, Franklin Middle School and Washington High School. Many of Gary's lifelong friends go back to his high school days, and he always made a point of connecting with them when he was in town.

Gary attended the University of Iowa and upon graduation followed his desire to live in the big city. He started in Dallas, then Chicago, but ultimately settled in Atlanta, where he spent the bulk of his adult life. All along the way, Gary's circle of friends continued to grow.

Gary was a salesman by trade, but was most interested in having a good time. He was quick to make a new friend, as easily as he called on an old one. If it involved sports, music or just spending time with friends, Gary was all in. But most important to Gary was his family. Gary never committed to having his own family; he had a dear friend in Niki and truly enjoyed spending time with his brothers (Greg and Ken). He was adored by his nieces, Alexandra and Emma, and was a good friend to his nephew, Graham. He was our "Uncle Buck," and we all loved him unconditionally.

When we think of Gary, it always will bring a smile to our face. For those of you who knew him, we hope the same is true for you.
