Terry Rabus

Terry L. Rabus, 45, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

Terry was born February 21, 1962 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert Lee and Nancy Jane (Martin) Rabus. Terry was a 1980 graduate of George Washington High School, where he was a first team all stater in the sport of baseball. Terry continued his passion for baseball at Kirkwood Community College and later with his involvement in coaching for many years with the Kennedy Cougar Baseball organization.

Terry was employed at Heartland Medical, Iowa City, Iowa where he had many good friends, including customers that he called upon and cared deeply for. Terry enjoyed golfing, Iowa Hawkeye Football, and being with his family and friends.

Terry loved life and he lived his life for his children Jaclyn Rae and Bryant Lee.
Terry taught us all how to be better people and showed us to be positive and to treat each other with love and kindness.

I am truly sorry for the loss of a very nice kind, man. I went to school with Terri and he was always cool with me. He was funny, in class. Like one time terry, and two other classmates, counted on how many times I got up out of my chair in class. They counted 100 and something. He will always be in my thoughts. I just found out about his passing. I was trying to find a class mate, and the site I was on brought me to GWH website. Again, my condolences. Janice Steward

1.  I bet not many of us knew Terry Rabus was First Team All State as a pitcher in baseball because his incredible success came during the summer after we all graduated.

2.  Dave Gosch told me the following story a few months ago about Terry:

In 1980 Terry was a part-time second basemen while Washington got off to a 1-5 start.  At that point, Primrose declared, "I don't know what we're going to do, but I do know Gosch isn't pitching anymore." Well, the rest is history. He tried Terry and his buggy whip arm as a pitcher and we went 16-1 from there. We were one strike away from the state semifinals, but a weak dribbler got through the hole to allow No. 1 Charles City to knock us off in state.

3.  Terry was a great guy.  His passing stunned me.  I have a lot of good memories of playing basketball with Terry at Jane Boyd, McKinley and the YMCA.  God Bless, Terry Rabus.

Thanks for posting, John. By the way, you haven't changed much, my friend. Terry's story is truly amazing and I think he deserves to be inducted into the Washington Hall of Fame. I've been unable to get much traction, but I'll keep trying. If any current Hall of Famers have some input or clout, I'd love to hear from them. I can't wait to see all my former teammates and classmates this weekend.
