DENVER, Colorado (Reuters) -- A Denver, Colorado, electrician was buried alive in a construction accident that was discovered only after his wife called his boss to find out why he hadn't come home, a published report said Wednesday.
The Denver Post reported that Robert Condry, 27, was on his first day back at work Monday since the birth of his daughter 11 days earlier when he entered a two-foot wide and 30-40 foot long trench in northeast Denver just before it was filled with dirt.
Construction workers told police the man may have reentered the trench to finish some work or retrieve tools, but the backhoe worker failed to see him.
Condry's wife called her husband's boss at night when her husband did not return home from work. The man's vehicle was still parked near the construction site so police began searching there. They found his body about 2-1/2 hours later, the newspaper said.
"All indications are that he was buried alive," police spokesman John Priest said.
