Daniel Joseph Patten, 52, of Salina, Kan., died Saturday, May 2, 2015, of a massive heart attack while passing through Booneville, Mo.

He was born March 21, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the youngest child of Morris and Ivy Patten. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1981.

Dan lived life as an adventurer and was known to have hiked throughout the lower 48 states and Hawaii. One of his most remembered hikes was down the Appalachian Trail. Late in life he became an over-the-road longhaul truck driver. Dan always had stories to tell about his travels. At the time of his death he was employed by Triangle Trucking in Salina and had completed over 1,000,000 miles accident-free.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Patten.

He leaves a son, Jacob Patten, Alhambra, Calif.; a sister, Connie Harrington, Vanderwagen, N.M.; and two brothers, Mike Patten, Cedar Rapids, and Tim Patten, Burlington, Kan.

Dan loved to read and watch movies of the old west. He loved to update his Facebook page with his latest views on everything to his friends and followers.

He will be missed by his friends and relatives from the lower 48 states.
