 Clarence LCheairs, . Age 72, of Gary, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012, at Methodist Hospital Northlake. Clarence was born September 18, 1939, to Willie Allen and Pauline Larue (Coleman) Cheairs, in Somerville, Tenn. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958, became employed at US Steel, joined the US Army in September 1961, and was honorably discharged in September 1964. He returned to US Steel, and retired in 2002, after 43 years of service. Clarence was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Allen Cheairs, and parents, Willie Allen and Pauline. He leaves to cherish his memory: loving wife of 46 years, Dora; daughter, Tonya 'Toni' Cheairs, and son, Kenye (Kenya) Cheairs, of Gary; three grandchildren, Venetia 'Nesh' Mortimore of Indianapolis, and Gabriel 'Gabe', and Imani Cheairs of Gary; brothers, Andre Duane 'Lefty' Cheairs of Gary, and Nikita 'Chico' (Kris) Cheairs of Houston, TX; sisters, Suzanne (Clarence) Green, Peggy and Jacqueline Cheairs, all of Gary; aunt, Virginia Cheairs of Somerville, Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Ella Dean Holman, and Yvonne (Charles lifelong friend) Hamer, all of Gary; nephew and a caretaker during his illness, Derrick Phillips of Gary; 'forever' son-in-law, Randall D. Mortimore of Chicago, Ill.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation is from 10 am to 9 p.m. Friday, September 21st, at Smith, Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Grant St. Family hour is from 6 to 8 p.m. Viewing is also from 9 to 11 am Saturday, September 22nd, followed by the funeral service, at Carter Memorial CME Church, 635 W. 49th Ave., Gary.
