Bill got cheated out of a long life by an icy road car crash. He was just still in his 20's. He had more potential than any of the ten best of us. He, Godell, Pugh, and I built a 12' x 24' raft and floated it 450 miles in 3 weeks from Beardstown IL to Memphis. Bill and I had more similar interests than anyone else I have ever known; 35mm cameras, motorcycles, Physics, Astronomy, stained glass, Electronics. He still is a hole in my life.
A deeply intelligent, inquisitive and thoughtful friend who died in a car accident on slippery ice at age 27. In addition, Bill was kind, gentle, caring and had the ability to listen to everybody. Any thought or opinion could be expressed to Bill and he would give it proper consideration. There were usually perceptive questions to determine if your reasoning was solid. In the fifty years that have passed since Bill's death I have had the opportunity to meet only a handful of men and women who contained all these unique gifts and without the smallest piece of arrogance. He was a gentleman and I still miss him.
