Forever a Part of Our Class

As we prepare to reunite and celebrate the memories, friendships and experiences that shaped our years at Clarendon College, we also remember a classmate who should have been here to celebrate with us — Nicholas Hutchins.

Nicholas passed away in 2019, but for those of us who shared those school years with him, it isn't difficult to picture him exactly as he was: laughing, cracking a joke, and probably surrounded by Greens, Bugz and, more often than not, a few of the ladies.

Nicholas was one of our class clowns — the kind of person who could turn an ordinary school day into a story we'd still be laughing about years later. Whether he was joking around with Greens and Bugz, representing Clarendon College alongside them in School Challenge Quiz, or enjoying the attention that came with his memorable relationship with Kymona — yes, good body Kymona — Nicholas certainly knew how to make his school days interesting.

But some of our best memories aren't the big moments. They're the simple ones we didn't realize we'd miss so much.

Going to DaCosta Cup football matches with Erica and Rochelle. The Friday trips to Juici Beef, where we'd gather just to eat, talk, laugh and chill. The jokes that probably weren't as funny as we thought they were. The friendships. The teasing. The conversations. Those ordinary Friday afternoons that, looking back now, were anything but ordinary.

After leaving Clarendon College, Nicholas moved into another chapter of his life and was working in Montego Bay at the time of his passing. Sadly, his journey ended far sooner than any of us could have imagined.

As the Class of 2008 comes together again, there will inevitably be conversations about "remember when..." and "remember who..." And somewhere among those stories, Nicholas will be there.

Because that is one of the beautiful things about the friendships we formed at Clarendon College: even when someone is no longer physically here, the memories they helped create remain part of our story.

So, Nicholas, this reunion is for you too.

We'll remember the jokes.
We'll remember the football matches.
We'll remember School Challenge Quiz.
We'll remember those Fridays at Juici Beef.
We'll remember the friendships, the laughter, and yes we'll remember Kymona too.

Most importantly, we'll remember you.

You may not be here to laugh with us when the Class of 2008 reunites, but your name, your stories and your place among us remain.

Rest well, Nicholas.
