I remember the first time that I saw Gary when we were in the 7th Grade at Eastway! I had never seen someone as athletic before or since. It was fun being in class with him and on the football team at GHS! He was my hero!

I later saw Gary playing at UNC and he amazed many including the TV announcers at a Bowl Game! The last time I talked with him was at the 25th Reunion.

This music fits my mood just now:

Gary was good friend from the 3rd grade forward.  A roommate in Chapel Hill.  You could never have a better friend.  He was very loyal to all his friends. We lost him much too soon. I still think about him often.

I think about Gary often. He was a very good friend and one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I knew Gary at Eastway and through Garinger and even saw he and Pat in Florida once.  Gary was humble, kind, and an athlete like I've never seen at Garinger and Carolina.    Pat Prince Vinroot

Gary and I grew up together and remained close all of his life. What a blessing our friendship was, and I think of him every day. He did leave us much too soon. What a great person and athlete.

Like Jerry, I went to school with Gary almost the entire 12 years. During the whole time he was one of the most respected and honorable people I have ever known. He was a good friend for all those years and when I heard that he had passed away, it was hard to understand and accept and remained constanly on my mind for a very long time.

Even though I didn't know Gary as well as Jerry or Buddy or someothers I always considered Gary a friend and never met as well rounded a person as Gary Black.  There should be more people in the world like Gary. Bob Jerman

I have so many fun memories of Gary that just thinking about him makes me smile.

One of the favorites is what he silently mouthed to me, looking into his rear view mirror at me in the back seat, about please getting out of his car. We were at Babe Maloy's and he and Pat were in the front seat and  yada, yada, yada.

Gary was truly a great friend and athlete.  He was good at all sports.  I especially enjoyed spending time with him and Pat after High School and College in Tampa Florida.  Carol
