Debby was a close "running buddy" of mine. She lived on the street behind mine and her folks had a place at the "River" (Catawba back then instead of Lake Wylie now). We water skied together for years. We rode bikes and climbed rocks at the Charlotte Nature Museum. She died in 1997 and I remember because my Dad died that year and no one could find me to tell me. We'd spoken a few years before and found out she'd been in radio on the disk jockey end and I'd been on the sales end. She was a wonderful artist and I can only imagine what might have been and would have liked to have known more about what was. We fall in and out of each others lives not from lack of love and care, but moves and life's little detours we take that wind us sometimes away physically but not heartwise from those we'll always care about no matter where they are. We had fun, we laughed a lot and I respected her talent and will never forget her. That's what being a friend ultimately is, a special gift beyond time and space.
