Pamela ("Pam") McFarlane died peacefully at home on August 4th in Bristol, TN at the age of 65. Pam is survived by her husband, Phil; children, Kelly McFarlane of Charlotte, NC and Dray McFarlane of Arlington, VA; sisters, Susan Hoover (Bob) of Cary, NC and Debra Crowder (Spencer) of South Hill, VA; aunt Katherine Rumley of Winston-Salem, NC; nephew Hunter Crowder (Alison) of Richmond, VA; niece Shannon McCall (Ryan) of Charlottesville, VA; and special family friend, Jonathan Dorsey (Amanda) of Bristol, TN. Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Louis and Betty Furches of Bristol, TN. Pam was born on January 14, 1952 in Goldsboro, NC.

She graduated from the University of Richmond in 1973. She met and married Phil McFarlane after college while living in Richmond, VA. Pam began a career as a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch while in Richmond, continuing that career in Bristol with the original firm of Wheat First Securities (now Wells Fargo), and finally retiring, again at Merrill Lynch. Pam built cherished relationships with her clients for 25 years and thoroughly enjoyed her profession, always looking forward to the next day's work.

Pam was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2002. She reluctantly retired and focused the next 15 years on time spent with family and good friends. Pam remained positive, cheerful, and without complaint while undergoing many treatments. Prevailing 15 years was a remarkable achievement by Pam, her family and friends, and the dedicated medical community which supported her.

Pam loved the beach, spending one week every year relaxing in the sand with her family for over 45 years. She loved to get together with friends, to entertain and just laugh and talk. Like most others, her family was her delight, and her love for animals ensured a dog and one or more cats were always included. Her sisters and their families provided many wonderful visits.

Pam loved singing and shared her talent with the community through several Junior League Follies and numerous family gatherings. Pam always looked forward to meeting her beloved friend, Joneen, for coffee every week before the ladies' yoga class. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday August 10th from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Bristol train station. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or to UAMS Myeloma Institute.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful physicians, nurses, and staff at Wellmont Cancer Center, Levine Cancer Center, UAMS Myeloma Institute, and Wellmont Hospice for the dedicated care and support they provided throughout Pam's multiple myeloma journey.

I will always renember her as a beautiful, kind and caring woman. I am happy she had children and time to spend near the ocean and wirh animals. My heart aches that she has gone too soon. I thought so well of her! She will always have a place in my heart and memory.
