Christine Cook
YORK - Heaven gained an angel when Christine Hume Cook, age 91, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter Elaine by her side on Sunday Oct 1, 2023. Chris loved church and her extended family which includes numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She cherished God, and lived by His principles, enjoying a fulfilled life.
Christine was predeceased by her husband James Cook, her grandson Scott Acker, and her two oldest sons, Robert Acker III, and David Acker. She was the mother of seven children, survived by Kathryn Rhyne (David), Elizabeth Acker, Elaine Burch (Steve), Christopher Acker (Susan) and Victoria Martin (Gerry). She leaves behind her brother, Don Hume, whom was a light in her life. Additionally, she is survived by our family special friends Billy Braswell, Audrey Justice, and Kari Rossignol, as well as countless others whom called her some version of Mom throughout the years.
She had been a member of American Business Women's Association, American Legion Auxiliary, Sedgefield Garden Club, Twin Mothers Club, and most recently the Eastern Airlines Retirees Association. Chris loved her 23 year career at Eastern Airlines developing many lifelong friendships, and then enjoyed a second career, and a new work family, at Consolidated Planning. There, she and new friends dubbed themselves "The Golden Girls."
Chris was a lifelong avid reader and gardener. From Boston, she followed the Red Sox with passion throughout her life. Most precious to her was the time she spent with her family which included ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was a constant at her children's sporting events, often watching up to four ball games on a Starclaire Saturday.
Chris exuded warmth and compassion, and never met a stranger. In addition to raising 7 children, she was a foster mother for "troubled teens." Christine was an example of a life well lived, and will be missed by many whose lives she touched and always changed for the better.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday October 14, 2023 at 1:00 at Community Church at Lake Wylie, 104 Hamiltons Ferry Rd., Lake Wylie SC. A reception with the family will be held immediately following the service. Please join us to share her memory and spread her warmth.
