Karen Barefoot

WILMINGTON - Judith "Karen" Barefoot, 65, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center, Wilmington. 

   She was born in Wilmington on October 13, 1948, daughter of the late J. Howard Barefoot and Grace Savage Barefoot Prestwood. Surviving are her sister, Linda Barefoot Merritt (Bobby) of Wilmington; her brother, DeWayne Barefoot (Debra) of York, SC; her god mother, "Fig" Newton of Wilmington; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, her devoted friends and caregivers; and her canine companion and best friend, Cassie. 

   Born and raised in Wilmington, Karen was a 1966 graduate of New Hanover High School. She later moved to Charlotte where she was employed as a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines and US Airways for many years. She was also a licensed realtor.          

   Karen was multitalented and could do anything she put her mind to. Anyone who knew Karen was blessed by her love for life, the gift to make you laugh and her unconditional love for family and friends. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.
