Henry rented an apartment near my family home in 1973? or 74?.  We ran into each on a heavy snow day as he was hitch hiking with his girl friend.  My older brother wrecked our car against the curb attempting to stop and pick them up.  I can't remember his girl friend's name who also attended East.  Over the next few weeks or so, I returned to his apartment where we caught up on things.  Big WAYS 610 AM was sponsoring a car give away promotion at the time and Henry was intent on winning it as his car had died.  I think you had to be the x number caller and have the correct answer for that hour to win.  Radios were blaring upstairs, down stairs, and in the kitchen so he wouldn't miss the contest clue.  He paced near the phone before each dialing session only to get a busy signal, dialing and redialing.  On my last trip over, I found Henry beside himself; not a single radio on.   He actually had won the car but his exhilaration was dashed by news of the taxes he'd have to pay to accept it.  He received something like 100$ for winning the contest instead.  We cured the mood with a few beers and playing cards.  He moved shortly thereafter and I never saw him again. I recall he was going to start art school or something like that but not sure now.

Henry had the greatest smile, was a free spirit, quiet in his success, and content with simply being himself.

Henry was a fellow school bus driver. I had a long time friendship with his sister Susie Duls who passed last year. His untimely passing was hard on family. His on going health issues eventually took him down. a kind heart, friendly and acccepting of all ...
