Hi Jim, it was cancer, and if I remember correctly, of the throat. His Dad lives nextdoor to my Mom at Sharon Towers here in Charlotte. We grew up together at church. Yes, he was a neat guy.
Jim & I were chemistry class/Carmichael I recall & lab partners then. Very much a good association & friendship in that specialized context. I'd bet some treasure that he was an excellent dentist with a physician's heart. Paradoxically our family retreat in Little Switzerland meant visits to Spruce Pine where he practiced. Sorry I did not know Jim was there then....

I remember Jim well. Is there an obituary available?

Yes, I just sent it to Jane Sutton and she is working on it!

I know Jane is busy. I've placed an image from the Observer of Jim's obituary in the cloud here: https://app.box.com/s/j53eg3hgxavldu6pkhifaiwpk0e4yi80

Thanks for posting this Bill.

I recall hearing about Jim's untimely and sad death. Does anyone know what happened to him. Good guy.

Yes he was, Bruce. He was instrumental in getting flouride in the municipal drinking water long ago. His Dad was proud of that.

Jim was such a kind person and it is heartbreaking to lose him at such a young age.
