Growing up, Jody lived on Biltmore Drive real close to me on Scotland and together with Dickson Dorrier and Jim White, we had some awesome times together. He was a Beta at UNC as I was and died in a trajic auto acicent his sophmore year. For years our fraternity had the Jody Akers Scholarship given to a deserving Beta in honor of Jody. He was a dear friend, smart as a whip and sky was the limit on what he may have accomplished. Still missed and never forgetten!!
Jody was one of my best friends in junior high and high school. He was my roommate roomed at UNC until I got married to Robbin Ramey. I keep a photo of him to this day. I still think of him often and wonder how his life might have turned out if he had not died so young. I, too, remember playing football and basketball on Scotland Ave and Trinity (Pop Warner) football with him and many others in our class. He was number 54 on that team. Jody, Jeff Linker, Jim White and I made a very memorable trip to Europe for a couple months during the summer after our freshman year at UNC. We all bought Eur-rail passes and traveled by train all around Western Europe for a couple months that summer. Jim still sends me photos from that trip that I cherish.

Thanks for this, George. Jody really was a great guy and one of our best teammates at Trinity Football. Tough as nails.
