Martha Anne McKnight

Martha Anne McKnight, M.D., passed away July 12th, 2016 in her home in Dunn. Anne was born on September 29, 1955, in Charlotte to the late Harold Francis McKnight and Martha Helms McKnight. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Brent McKnight.
Following graduation from Myers Park High School, Anne graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977 and Duke University School of Medicine in 1981. She proudly served her country as a physician in the United States Air Force and in the United States Department of Veteran Affairs.
During her life, Anne worked in various capacities as a child Psychiatrist. She retired early to help take care of her father, and then her mother, in their later years. A devoted daughter, sister, and aunt, Anne was also a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte and then First Presbyterian Church in Dunn, NC. She enjoyed traveling, avidly followed sports and politics, and cherished time with friends, family, and the many pets she owned over the years.
Anne is survived by her nephews, H. Brent McKnight, Jr. and his wife, Ashley, Matthew C. McKnight, and S. Stephen McKnight; her sister-in-law, Beth Herion McKnight; aunts and uncles, Sue and Ernest Tsitouris of Monroe, NC, and Diane and David McKnight of China Grove, NC.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 pm, Saturday, July 16th, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church, 901 North Park Avenue, Dunn, NC 28334. A graveside burial service will be held in Charlotte at a later date.

I remember Anne very well. We were both in Mrs. Hinson's 11th grade English class. Anne was brilliant, and was so proud of her big brother Brent. I'm sorry we lost touch after my family moved away.
