Ethel Whitley - Faculty, Math

December 11, 1919 - April 29, 2008

MARSHVILLE -- Miss Whitley, age 89, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at CMC-Union. A graveside funeral service to celebrate the life of Ethel J. Whitley will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Marshville City Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Alex Martin of the First Baptist Church of Marshville. Miss Whitley was born on December 11, 1919, in Union County, a daughter of the late Vade Joshua Whitley Sr. and Elizabeth Ella Medlin Whitley. Aunt Ethel graduated from UNC-G, taught mathematics at Myers Park High School where she retired on June 30, 1978. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, Eta State and Alpha Zeta Chapter and a lifelong Democrat. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Thelma Whitley Nixon and a brother, V. J. Whitley, Jr. She is survived by her nephew and wife, Jimmy and Denise Whitley of Marshville, and their children, Beth Whitley Hudson of Indian Trail, Suzette Whitley Porter of Italy, and Wayne H. Lee of Burnsville. The family would like to personally thank Curt Chambers for his many years of hard work, dedication and loyalty to Aunt Ethel. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery. Memorials may be made in her memory to The Union County Democratic Women, c/o Van Crow, 1208 Rosa Drive, Monroe, NC 28112. Davis Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Miss Whitley.
