In Memory

Barbara Gentry (Haden) - Class Of 1956

Barbara "Bobbi" Gentry Haden passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at her home in Charlottesville, Va., from complications of kidney disease.

Bobbi was born May 10, 1939, to John and Eloise Gentry of Crozet, Va. She graduated from Albemarle High School and attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va. She married Tom Haden September 6, 1958, and lived her entire life in Charlottesville. She was a successful realtor and marketing specialist in Charlottesville for many years. After that, her design skills and knowledge of American crafts made her a valuable staff member at Signet Gallery where she shared many memorable adventures with friend and Gallery owner, Penny Bosworth, as they traveled the southwest in Penny's RV, buying craft items for the Gallery.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Bobbi played piano with natural talent and joy, was known for the best Bloody Marys, had a beautiful way with words, loved giving special gifts to family and friends, and lit up her neighborhood every year with playful Christmas lights.

Bobbi's husband, Tom, passed away in June 2010. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Haden and grandchildren, Ellie and Haden Kettler, of Silver Spring, Md.; her brother, Hubert Gentry, and wife, Judy, of Harrisonburg, Va.; and her sister, Susan Roehmer and husband, John, of Oakton, Va. Her family wants to also give special thanks and recognition to her steadfast friend, Mila Zimmerman, and her loving and tireless caregivers, Teresa Dickerson, Cathy Goodwin, Tameika Ayers, and Kathy Lewis Ayers, who provided Bobbi and her family with comfort and friendship over many years.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Because of her love of animals, especially her current tuxedo cat, Tucker, contributions in her memory can be sent to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901, or on-line at caspca.org.
