Gayle Sue Sprouse (Trevillian) - Class Of 1968 VIEW PROFILE

Gayle Sue Sprouse (Trevillian)

Gayle S. Trevillian had her homecoming with the Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Gayle was born on February 8, 1950, in Charlottesville, to Earl and Bulah Sprouse. At the age of nine, she and her family moved to Stony Point into a house that her father built. She was a self-proclaimed country girl, so it was only fitting that she and her husband Tom later moved next door to her parents in a new house built by her father, where she would raise her own family and live for the rest of her life.

Gayle was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and niece. Most recently, her favorite role was that of GG. She was a proud grandmother, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She wouldn't hesitate to drive to Virginia Beach or Jacksonville to be with them. While she was happiest being with her family, she also had a great love of travel and the outdoors. She took many family vacations out west, delighting in the small details of a beautiful flower as much as the grandeur of the Grand Tetons. She loved hiking, riding horses, and taking pictures of the beautiful scenery. She would tease about moving to Colorado, but Stony Point always called her home. When she was at home she was often planting flowers, taking long walks on the road, or picking fruit in her father's orchard.

Gayle took great care of her home and family, and once her children were out of the house, she began directing weddings for family and friends. One groomsman lovingly called her, "the little general." She managed to keep the wedding party in line while also having fun, which meant you could always catch her on the dance floor. Gayle loved motown and loved to dance. A love that had been passed down to her from both sides of her family and one she made sure to pass down to her daughters and niece. Spontaneous kitchen dance parties were a regular part of family beach vacations.

While Gayle loved her family, she also loved her friends so well that they felt like family. Her warm, genuine, and compassionate personality made everyone feel at home. She was a dear friend and a "second mom" to many. Her home was always open to her daughters' friends, hosting many youth events and parties over the years. She loved others so well, because her first love was her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she attended faithfully, serving in many different ministries over the years.

Gayle is survived by her immediate family including her loving husband of 44 years, Thomas Trevillian; her daughters, Kelly (Bryan) Rex, and Kami (Matthew) Melfa; five cherished grandchildren, Libby Rex, Evelyn Rex, Josiah Rex, Lucy Melfa, and Boden Melfa; her sister, Pamela F. Sprouse and her daughter, Hayley (Casey) Bannister; her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Bonny Trevillian; her sister-in-law, Mary Harding; her sister-in-law, Susan Trevillian; many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles that are too numerous to mention all by name but were deeply loved and cherished.

The family would like to thank Gayle's caregivers, Edith Ayers, Dianne Johnson, Debbie Lewis, Mary Mraz, Bianca Johnson, Estlle Jones, and Holly Hawthorne for their dedicated care of Gayle over the past two and a half years. The family would also like to thank the entire Caring Bridge community for faithfully reading, praying, and supporting the family in countless ways throughout Gayle's marathon.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at First Baptist Church Park Street, Charlottesville, Va., with a reception to follow at the church. Gayle loved color so we invite you to come wearing your favorite colors in celebration of her life. Those who wish, may send donations in honor of Gayle to Fellowship of Christian Athletes, University of Virginia at https://www.fcauva.org/donate or Fellowship of Christian Athletes, P.O.
