To the family of Wayne and the Alumni:
There are alot of fond memories of Wayne and just recently in the past couple of years Wayne and I connected through Facebook. It was neat to get back in touch with an old friend. Wayne is one great guy...a true gentle giant at AHS. We played JV and Varsity Football together and in 1963. We were members of the 1961 Championship Team.
Wayne, being from Covesville, had a bus drivers license and he drove the athletic bus for the players who lived south of town. A great accomodationfor many who could not afford a car or had the fortune to have a parent pick us up after practice. For many of us that was our only way home from practice other than thumbing home after practice or a game. Wayne afforded us that opportunity to play ball.
I remember one really special time with Wayne...we were coming home after a game one night and we stopped on US-29 just south of Fry's Springs intersection (it was still a 2 lane US Hwy 29) at a pizza place on the south side of the highway. That evening I had my first pizza and it was with the Wayne and the guys.
AHS graduated some absolutely fine folks in our day. Wayne was one of those exceptional greats. What blessed students we all were to have such quality friends with Wayne being one of them
Our memories of Wayne are of a team spirit, fun and great times...and I know the family's memories are definitely a treasure chest of happiness.
Our prayers...our blessings go out to Wayne and his family.
