Harvey Russell Carmichael, 65, of Midlothian, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015.

Harvey was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carmichael on Aug. 27, 1950 in Oxford NC, and subsequently moved to Scottsville.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Hampden-Sydney College in 1974 and his Ph. D. in Education from the University of Virginia in 1994.

June 9, 1974 he married Sallie Elizabeth Smith of Buckingham Co.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Sallie Smith Carmichael of Midlothian; two children, Anna Carmichael Redding and spouse Charles Edgerton Redding of Midlothian and Harvey Russell Carmichael, Jr. and spouse, Jill Miles Carmichael of Midlothian; two sisters, Phyllis Carmichael Stem and spouse Fred Holman Stem, Jr. of Aiken, SC and Patricia Campbell Bryant and spouse Michael Gerald Bryant of Scottsville; brother Floyd Willard Carmichael, Jr. and spouse Sallie Thomas Carmichael; and grandchildren Savannah Grace Carmichael, Charles Howard Redding, Stella Madison Carmichael, Campbell Carmichael Redding and Sophia Annabelle Carmichael.

Harvey was preceded in death by his beloved stepfather, Campbell Fleenor Holt.

A visitation will be held for friends and family at Bennett Funeral Home- 14301 Ashbrook Pkwy. on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
