Gladys Marie “Toodie” Herndon passed away January 30, 2021.

Born April 14, 1945, she was the daughter of Charlie Clinton and Gladys Edge Mawyer Walker.

She was a life-long, devoted member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. A 1963 graduate of Albemarle High, she worked for State Farm Insurance Cos. for 20 years.

Toodie was married to the late Herman J. Herndon, Jr. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Debbie Walker; by her sister, Elaine O’Connor; six nieces and nephews and their ten children; by beloved cousins and friends.

Toodie faced many challenges, especially the loss of her husband at 30 and life-changing strokes at 38. Through it all, she persevered with quiet strength, without complaint. She always put others before self. She was a smiling, singing, loving person with a good heart and a good soul.

A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church and officiated by Pastor Tim Worley.
