John Cochran VIEW PROFILE

John Christian Cochran, 53, of Fishersville, Va., formerly of Charlottesville, Va., died on Monday, October 24, 2016, at Augusta Medical Center.Born on October 17, 1963, in Spokane, Wash., he was the son of Barbara Wohlford Cochran and the late John Walker Cochran. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edith Wohlford Graham and Leigh Buckner Wohlford, and Sarah Alice Cochran and Jarman Peter Alexander Cochran, all of Roanoke, Va.He is survived by his mother; two daughters, Shayna Kirsten Cochran of Charlottesville, Va. and Sophia Grace Cochran of Orange, Va.; and a son, Bryson Michael Cochran and wife, Kaitlin Dwyer Cochran of Virginia Beach, Va.John was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Persian Gulf War and was employed by the U.S. Navy at the University of Virginia NROTC. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Science from Vernell University and was previously employed by theCommonwealth of Virginia Department of Corrections. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.The family would like to thank the staff of the University of Virginia NROTC for their continued support, kindness, and friendship to John throughout his time with them and especially during his illness.The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. J. Mark Prichard and the second and third floor staff of the Cornell Wing at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont for the extraordinary care given to John especially his nurse Kelly Ottman, his social worker Edith Thomas, MSW, his chaplain Erminia (Poni) Janabio, and team leader Angela Jacobs, RN.
