50th reunion planning

Hi all,

Most of you have seen my letter, which Elaine sent to your personal email addresses.

If you have strong feelings one way or the other about a possible venue, let us know!

We were considering a three day cruise, aa weekend in Las Vegas, the traditional hotel venue in the Valley (y'all remember where that is, right?), and the Sagebrush Cantina, where we had our 60th Birthday Bash.

So far, sentiment is leaning toward the Sagebrush.

Everyone's schedules may have lightened up a bit (except for a few of you relatively new daddy's, and perhaps some of you are now raising grandchildren), but also many of us do not have the cash-flow to which we were accustomed. So there are still many considerations, and we want to consider them all.

Not sure if you have noticed it, but we are no longer 18, or 30, or even 50; we have met our mortaliity rate, and this may be the last big shindig many of us will be able to attend.

Come visit old friends; make some new ones...

Hope to hear from you, and see you all in October, whatever date and venue we select!

John Richards

Hi Everyone,

Thought you'd all like to know that we had 5 new classmates sign up on the website today! That's the power of communication and "spreading the word"—thank you to those of you helping to find more of our classmates!

Over the last 7 years, 37.6% or 267 out of 711 Winter and Summer '68 graduating classmates listed on the official database roster of classmates have joined our website.

We've tried our best over the years to find the remaining 444. We've called and sent postcards to those whose emails bounced back as undeliverable. We hope you may know where they are. If so, please enourage them to join our website for the latest news about our 50th reunion and to reconnect with their classmates.

You can tell who has not yet signed up on our website by clicking the Classmate Profiles tab and looking at the list for those classmates who don't have any symbols to the right of their name. Those are the ones we are still "missing."

In the meantime, we look forward to hearing any suggestions you might have for our 50th Reunion venue!

Best,

Elaine

Hi John - long time no see!  The Sagebrush Cantina sounds like it might be the option allowing for the most to attend. At this stage of the game, simpler is better...  Looking forward to gathering with all, wherever it is. See you in October.

Thank you Elaine for all your hard work with our CHS 1968 web site. You should feel very proud of what you have accomplished.
Please relay to John Richards my thanks to him and the Reunion Committee for coordinating our 50th high school reunion.

From Clarence Wittman (C.J.) and Darlene Allen Wittman

We are looking forward to attending our 50th Reunion.  We have been paying close attention to the conversation about where and when the reunion should be held.  As C.J. said earlier he really doesni't handle sea cruises well.  We have talked and both agree that a reunion held in the Valley would be our preference. We attended the 60th birthday party at the Sagebrush Cantina and think that it would be fine but we would like to revisit the idea of having something similiar to what was held at the Hilton in Warner Center.  All things being considered that would be our first choice. Also, the first or second weekend in October would be great for us for several reasons, no matter where it is held (except on a boat).  So that is 2 votes for the San Fernando Valley (and maybe a trip to Chatsworth High School).

Hi everyone!

So, those that are reading this are more than likely aware that our reunion will be held at the Sagebrush Cantina. It proved to be a good venue for collective 60th Birthday Bash in 2010, so here we go again! If we get enough responses, we could wind up with the entire patio! Not holding my breath, just sayin'....

For those of you who have Facebook accounts, you might want to check out the group "I grew up in Topanga Plaza". It has been a kick to follow the posts, which includes a lot of very old photographs of the western Valley. I've reconnected with people that I knew working in TP (40-50 years ago), along with "kids" I knew in elementary and Jr High (I went to the old Huges Jr Hi on Winnetka, along with 4 of our classmates.)

The whole point of this post was to give you a few hints about what you might do as tourists in the Valley if you have a couple of days before and/or after the reunion. Here's the list:

Valley Relics Marila and Hayvenhurst

Chatsworth Historical Society\

Leonis Adobe (a couple doors west of the Sagebrush, and near the hotel where some of you may stay)

Cube, The Childrens Museum
Nethercutt Museum
Japanese Garden
Basin tours of Lake Balboa
Water Reclamation Tours by the Basin

We will add more as they occur to us.

Oh, and we are going to try to get tickets for the football game on Friday night, before the Reunion. Not sure yet if it is a homegame, but it was at our 40yr, so fingers crossed! No plans yet for  picnic in the Quad, but stay posted.

As for "the day after",  some of you may want to enjoy the Sunday Brunch at the Sagebrush, but we will leave those arrangements to you. There are many other great breakfast/lunch venues in the area to choose from.

If you  haven't travelled along Topanga Canyon Blvd in what is now known as Warner Center, you WILL NOT believe it! Incredible changes in the west Valley, and although Devonshire in Chatsworth will not look drastically different, take a look up in the hills!! Thousands of new homes, shopping, schools, and a rapid transit system replaced the rail line that paralleled Canoga Avenue.

Stay tuned for more updates, and let us know if you have any great suggestions that we can either take action on or recommend to classmates!

Take care y'all,,
John

Pat Walsh, et al, the discussion about our reunion is taking place on our website under the Class Chat tab. You still have to register on the TRC (The Reunion Committee) website to pay. We do not have the ability to collect and disseminate funds on this site. Hope that is clear for everyone!
