Gretchen (Dutchie) was my closest friend in high school. We met in Mr. Palafox's class and that was that. She eventually introduced me to Ken Colestock, the father of my two boys.
I remember the day Dutchie and I went together to have our senior pictures taken, we got all fixed up, dressed up, went to Gilbert Miracle's studio (love that name!) had our pics done, then raced back home, tore out our hair and dove into the swimming pool for a cool off! Thus went our summers as best friends. In our younger adult years, we stayed connected, lived as neighbors twice when our children were small (both times in Reseda), and even when we lived in different states, managed to stay in each other's lives (remember no email back then). Dutchie lived with diabetes most of her adult life. Her great hubby Bob and daughter Kimberly helped her thorugh many rough times. Kim can't help but bring her mom back to life for me when we visit. They are so much alike! We all miss her of course and her light shines always in our hearts.
I will forever be grateful for her love and friendship.
