Jack's sister, Claudia Ross See, sent us the following information about Jack's passing:
(Services for Jack are on Aug. 21st and 22nd in Redding, CA. For more information, please send a private message to Jack's sister. She is listed under Guest Members on our website.)
"My brother Jack "Skip" Ross passed 7/31/15 from an aggressive battle with lung cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Chatsworth, attending Chatsworth Elementary, Columbus Jr. High, and graduating from Chatsworth High in 1968. (Thank you CHS alumni for putting the old fight song together, it made him smile). As a young boy he kept busy with Indian Guides (mom was the leader), Boy Scouts, and Jr. League Baseball. Living amidst the orange groves at the foot of Stoney Point, Skip spent his free time climbing the mountain, playing tag in the groves, riding horses among the Cowboys on the local movie sets, tempting life in the train tunnels and riding his bike for miles and miles until the street lights came on! After high school he joined the Coast Guard with his best friend and served in various posts he loved; Florida, Maine, Alaska and Hawaii. Upon his return he joined ranks with Dad to work in the family steel fabrication business. When realizing that he wanted to be his own boss, he started an HVAC company that served the valley for 35 years. He finally got to retire in 2010 with his new wife of 2 years to Redding, CA where his sister Claudia lives. Skip threw himself into the great outdoors and vehemently renewed his love of golf, playing 5-6 days a week! The symptoms of cancer started rearing its ugly head at the beginning of 2015 and took his life in July. RIP my brother, you are terribly missed."

It saddens me greatly to learn of Jack's passing. We were good friends at Chatsworth HS, and dated for a while. I remember sitting out by the large planter with Jack, Paul Knippel and others at lunch time; nice comradery. I haven't seen Jack since my freshman year in college, but I have and always will have fond memories of him. Never saw Jack in a bad mood; he was always up for a good time and maybe a little mischief. He was also very kind. My deepest condolences to his wife, sister, family and friends. I hope the fish are jumping in heaven.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I, too, was one of tose lucky boys who grew up roaming the orange groves, fields and hills of Chatsworth in the 50s and 60s. I knew "Skip" from elementary school through high school, but we lost touch when I headed off to college. We had just reconnected a few months ago via this website and had mentioned getting together for some fishng. His life was too short, but it sounds like Jack lived it to the fullest. Again, my condolences to his family.

So sorry for your loss, Claudia. My condolences to you and your family. Sounds like he was just getting a second wind when the storm set in. So hard to lose someone so vibrant.

My sincere condolences to you Claudia, and your family, I too, like Brent, and others, knew Jack from elementary through highschool, Boy Scouts, and little league in Chatsworth. We were all privileged to have lived and grown up there. I had hoped to reconnect with him since I live over the "hill" from Redding in McKinleyville (on the coast), and had hoped to share some salmon and steelhead fishing. He will be missed, but with found memories.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I, too, was one of tose lucky kids who grew up roaming the orange groves, fields and hills of Chatsworth in the 50s and 60s. I knew Jack from elementary school through high school and Jack's house was inbetween Bob's ranch and ours....in Chatsworth.....I, too, use to ride my horse exploring our great backyard of Stoney Point and try to beat the trains through the tunnels.....c r a z y t i m e s and the crazy things kids do that their parents have no idea of....!
One of my favorite pastimes was exploring oon the old movie ranches and thank God I never explored to heavily over on the Spahn's Movie Ranch where the nortorious Charles Manson was.
Hearing of Jack's passing reminded me of the great little town I grew up in and makes me miss it even more.
My condolences. RIP Jack.....and may you be golfing in Heaven and enjoying all of your sports there. Gloria Golden Maxwell
