Carl Wesley Kennedy, was born 7-13-1954. He died in 1990, while serving in the US Navy. He would stand watch at the highest perch of his Ship; knowing he was the closest man to God for 1000 miles. Wesley was my boyfriend in 5th grade at Normal Park Elementary. One day at recess on the jungle gym, Butch Palmer, (the school bully-you KNOW you were, Butch) starting making fun of Wesley. I got so mad, I climbed down and started beating up Butch! I had him down on his back and was digging in Butch's forehead with my fingernail so hard that it "drew blood"! The playground monitors, Mrs Hansard and Ms Nolan, sent me to Mr. Talley's office! I got a spanking (3 licks with a paddle) and sent home from school early! Then mama spanked me when she got home from work! And it was all because Butch was picking on Wesley! But he never bothered him anymore after that little incident! I never got any more licks, either! Wesley stayed up on the highest part of the jungle gym just watching as I ruined my dress and got all dirty. Wes was special all the way through High School! I think of Wes every time I drive by Normal Park!
