Who Wants to golf?
Posted Saturday, May 30, 2009 10:41 AM

Please add your name to the thread if you plan on Golfing.

You can set up your own "foursome" or this will allow others to see who
is golfing and you can make up your own group from the thread.

Coordinator:  Jim Patten

Where:  Meadow Wood Golf Course (minutes from the hotel)

When:  August 1st, Saturday (Check in by 8:30)  Tee Time starts at 9 am.

Cost:  $28 per person,  payable in the Clubhouse at check-in.

Six tee times have booked (Each tee time is for a group of four).
They could still add a few foursomes if we need to.

They have rental clubs available.

We will play a four person Texas Scramble...

Every golfer tees off, then plays their second shot from the spot of the best drive.
Each subsequent shot is played from the spot of the "best ball" throughout the round.
It's a typical 4-person best ball scramle, except that teams must take 4 drives from each golfer.
It's a fun format for an event like this because it keeps the group together throughout the round,
rather than wandering off alone into the woods to play that stray golf ball.

It's good for any skill level, as it all comes down to a morning walk in the park with friends.
We just need golfers.

If you have any questions.  E-mail  Jim thru the Web site.

Lora

We had a great day of golf at the Fairways for the 20 year reunion... Blakely & I hacked our way around the track,  but Gil Rapp & Gil Jr. kept our team in the short grass.   I can't even remember who won the coveted championship,  but I think that you should defend your title!   I want to hear from the CHAMPS!

Hey Jim,

Thanks for organizing the tournament. I'm looking forward to a good time. I do have an ankle injury and was wondering about the availability of cart rental. The Meadow Wood website doesn't mention any. I also wonder if junior rates will apply for my fifteen year old son.

Hey Ken,  Yes, Meadow Wood has carts available for $20,  and the junior rate for kids under age 18 is $16.   They also have rental clubs available for $20.

Thanks for asking,  I should have included that info to begin with...  Let me know if you have any other questions.   I look forward to seeing you.   jim

Thanks for the quick update Jim. Also, there's a good chance my brother will be in town that weekend. I don't know if he'll be interested in golfing, but in case he asks, who is the golfing event open to?

Hey Ken,  Definitely have Dennis play if he's in town...  I think a fair rule would be to have at least one 79'er on each team.  Bring your ringers...  even if Dennis is your ringer.

I run into your Mom & Sandra around town every now & then,  it's always great to visit with them & get the updates on the Boardman clan.  You should have Lavern round out your foursome if she's not out on another world tour.

Thanks for another good question.  We'll make up the rules as we go along. Jim

Thanks Keith,   You are officially on the list.  If you don't play very well,  than I may need you on my team to make me look good.  You better hit the driving range between now & August 1st.  No excuses... we only do this once every decade...  Jim

Hey Everyone

Looks like a nice course. Beautiful from the pics and I'm sure tough to play too. Put me down for golf. Sounds like a blast. They have club rental and carts which is good. What about beer? LOL.

Thanks Tracy.  Dev sent me a note a couple of days ago, so we've got you guys on the list.  With the addition of your team,  13 of our 24 tee times are filled.  We have six other golfers that have expressed interest, but have not yet committed.   Greg Paul said that he would play if one of his clubs could be a baseball bat.  See you there!

Here is the field as of today:

John Fox

Jeff Brady

Ken Boardman & Son

Keith Bare

Scott Adams

Dave Blakely

Steve Fisher

Hey Jim,

I now have a threesome. My brother Dennis would like to golf.

RE: Who Wants to golf?

Thanks Ken, Great to hear that Dennis will be joining us. As of now, the first tee time ( 9:00 )is being held for the defending champions, should they decide to defend their title. The gauntlet has been thrown! ( Who the hell won that, anyway?) The second tee time will go to Tracy & Dev's team. You will have the third tee time, along with the first name drawn from the hat. The rest of the field, teams and times, are subject to blind draw without express written consent from the commissioner of baseball. See you soon. Jim

Hey JIm,

I may already have a fourth player. I'm waiting for word back from my sister's boyfriend. He needs to find out if he can get that day off. I've asked Julie to contact me when Sean knows one way or the other.

Thanks Ken,  You're in, buddy.   I just got a message from Mike Klemke that he's going to play also,  so we've filled the field of 24.

I just called Meadow Wood and added another tee time,  so if anyone else wants play, we do have a few spots left.  See you there!  Jim

Hi Jim-

Sorry this is a last minute type deal, normal for my life!!  If you still have any room... My husband and son would LOVE to golf with the awesome class of 1979!!  I'm having some heart problems, chest pain, blah, blah.. I have a heart cath scheduled for Monday, August 3rd at the Heart Institute.  I would be their "caddy" and beer goddess!!   I won't be able to golf. We would love to join you, pls let me know if that is possible.  We would need 1-2 carts.  Let me know and I can get some money going your way or call Meadowview.  I wasn't going to do this but  my husband knows how much this group of friends mean to me.

Thanks-

Kelly Tellez(McBride)

Hi Jim ,

Dev may have let you know that our team has unfortunately fallen apart with my husband motorcycle accident and David Noreen unable to come.  Mike and I could join up with Kelly's husband and son , or just put our names into the hat.  How do you think this is all going to work out?

Thanks for your time and effort,

Tracy

Hi Tracy,  I got a note from Dev earlier today.  Sorry to hear about Jeff's accident, I hope he recovers quickly.   I called Kelly, and her family will be joining us on Saturday.

Thanks to you & Mike for joining us at the course in a difficult circumstance.  We'll put you into the draw as a twosome.  See you soon.  Jim

I just wanted to thank everyone that came out for the tournament.  That was the first time that I've played Meadow Wood... what a beautiful golf course.

I really appreciate having everyone show up as planned, particularly the bunch that helped me close down the Saddle Inn on Friday night.   It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I hope you all had a great time & enjoyed the round.  Thanks again.  Jim
