
Peggy L. (Hughes) Robbins, 74, of Des Moines, IA passed away Monday, February 9, 2015 at her residence. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14 at First Presbyterian Church, 3100 Easton Blvd, Des Moines. Private interment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, IA is pending. A secondary memorial in Storm Lake will be planned for a later date.
Peggy was born in Des Moines on June 13, 1940 to Donald Albert Hughes and Jayne Marguerite (Greer) Hughes of Cherokee. She graduated from Washington High School there in 1958 and married Thomas L. Robbins. She graduated from Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, where she earned her nursing degree.
Peggy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, where she attended and volunteered, and where she had many good friends. She also volunteered at the Not New Shop in Des Moines.
In her career, Peggy had been a registered nurse in Storm Lake, IA; Rogers, AR; as a traveling nurse in Destin, FL and Charleston, SC; and eventually retiring from Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She loved spending time with her "grands," her pets and volunteering with the Animal Rescue League. She most recently enjoyed hosting a weekly movie night with friends from church.
Peggy is survived by her three sons, Charlie, of Alta, IA; Steve and Dan, both of Des Moines; grandchildren, Chris, Curt, Charlie III, Matt, Michelle, Jesse and Adam; many great grandchildren; her brother, Donald Albert Hughes II, of Sioux City, IA; her aunt, Carol Elledge of Huntsville, AL; sisters-in-law, Cindy Nelson of Arizona and Lois Sutton of North Carolina; and a brother-in-law, Artie Sutton of Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald Albert Hughes and Jayne Marguerite (Greer) Hughes of Cherokee; and former husband, Tom Robbins of Cedar Rapids, IA.
