Janet Swanson (Christenson)

Jan Christenson, 54, of LeMars died Saturday, July 30, 1994 at a cancer clinic in Mexico after a long illness.  Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 5, 1994 at St. John’s American Lutheran Church with Rev. David Kramer officiating.  Burial was in Memorial Cemetery. A prayer service was held on Thursday evening at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. The family requests that Memorials be made to Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp. The family established a special fund for 1 youth from St. John's American: Lutheran Church to attend this camp. 

Jan Swanson was born June 22, 1940 in Cherokee, Iowa to AI and Armena Swanson. She was raised in Cherokee and graduated from Cherokee High School in 1958. Jan attended Luther College at Decorah, Iowa; She was united in marriage to Jerry Christenson on June 5, 1960 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cherokee.

Jan and Jerry are the parents of two children, Julie born in 1962 and Jeff born in 1969.  Jan had lived in LeMars for 28 years. She had worked for Dr. Earl Augspurger as a receptionist for 10 years. She was a member of TIT, Beta Sigma Phi and St. John's American Lutheran Church. Jan will be remembered for her compassion, generous heart, and her love for children and the Lord.

Survivors include her husband Jerry of LeMars, her daughter Julie of Eden Prairie, Minn.; her son Jeff of Phoenix, AZ; her brother, Dr. Robert Swanson of Ames, IA; her sister Karen Wooldridge of Plano, TX; 2 godchildren, Kyle Jester and Zachary.
