Wilbur Kohn

Wilbur J. Kohn, 65 of Bettendorf, formerly of Dyersville, formerly of Cherokee died Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport after a long illness.  Funeral services were held at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery.

Wilbur was born Feb. 8, 1040 in Cherokee, the son of Bernard and Mildred Faye (McCannon Kohn.  He married Jeanne A Manthey on July 14, 1962 in Dyersville.  Wilbur was in postal service for 27 years culmination as postmaster from 1077 to 1984 when he retired.  He was in Boy Scouts from 1975 to 1984 in various leadership roles and also enjoyed filming many of the football and basketball games for Beckman athletic high school fro 1089 to 1995.

He and Jeanne served as a marriage encounter team for 15 years.  Wilbur served in both the nay and the Army reserves for a total of 26 years.  Wilbur and Jeanne worked a summer at the  “Field of Dreams” souvenir shop.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Jeanne of Bettendorf, three sons; Richard (Patricia) of Epworth, Patrick (Victoria) of Edgewater, Md., Christopher (Meghan) of Bettendorf, one granddaughter Abigail, a brother, Bernard Kohn of Cherokee, IA, Sister Mary Margaret (Kohn) Griego of Denver, Colo, a brother-in-law Ron (Karen) Manthey of Davenport and many nieces and nephews. 

Wilbur was preceded in death by both parents and a nephew, Kenneth Kohn,
