Staatsburg - John E. "Jef" Fassett, 67, of Staatsburg, NY, passed peacefully away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home after a very short battle with pancreatic cancer and following a 2009 Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. He was a kind and generous man, quick to laugh and slow to anger, who suffered through more than his share of hardships during his lifetime.
Born on May 12th, 1950, in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Muriel (Monroe) Fassett. Jef graduated from Arlington High School and attended the Pennsylvania Military College in Chester, PA. His first wife, Susan Taber Fassett, predeceased him and on June 19, 2004 he married Barbara (Sweeney) McBride who survives him at home.
Jef retired as a Lieutenant from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department in 2006 after 30+ years of service. Four days after his retirement from the police department, Jef and his wife, Barbara, embarked on an exciting and new entrepreneurial adventure as the owners of Bark Busters of Dutchess County, an at home dog training company.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by his children; Jason Fassett of Pawling, NY, Christopher Fassett and his wife, Kerri Fassett, of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Alison Wesolowski of Poughkeepsie, NY; as well as two nephews, Leonard Robbins of Oro Valley, AZ, and Eric Robbins of Tucson, AZ; his canine companion, a Golden Retriever named Dakota and other extended family, friends, and colleagues.
