PMC Track Team Posted Saturday, August 11, 2018 05:50 PM Bobby reminded me of how GREAT our Track Team was all 4 years we were at PMC. The Track Team lost ONLY 1 Dual Meet in 4 years. We won the MAC's all 4 Years (I think PMC had a string of 8-10 MAC Championships in a row). I don't think Dave Irons, Tim Joyce or Mike Kormanicki ever lost an individual race. The 4 x 440 Relay Team NEVER lost a race. Jack McTaggert always took a 1st 2nd or 3rd in the Javelin, Discus and Shot Put. .Dave Driscol always placed, and usually 1st or 2nd, in the High and Low Hurdles. Skip Dougherty was coach for all the track events, George Hansel ran the Field events. Skip was a Great Guy and Great Mentor to us all, and still is today. Dave Irons went on to compete with the US Olympic Pentathelon Team. Jim Meile (Class of '65) was invited to compete for the US Olympic decathlon Team, but couldn't go because of an injury. I can't think of all the memorable events I was able to witness but a few: every race by Irons, Joyce and Kormanicki; the race at Franklin and Marshall where Tim Joyce led off the 1st leg of the Relay and got a face full of ciders, he slowed down to take the ciders out of his mouth and then still won his leg; in the same meet, Dave Driscol was so far ahead in the High Hurdles that at the last hurdle he lost his steps, stopped, pushed over the last hurdle and still won the race. Maybe someone else can remember some others. |
